I have spent the last few months teaching and writing, and my book about Transformation Mindsets is almost ready for show time. It has been a labour of human love, capturing some of lessons from the almost thirty years of working with students, co-founding Hyper Island, moving to Singapore and working with a wide range of companies to help them transform.
As I finish I have felt compelled to see how my new alien friends Claude, Chatty and NoteyLM feel about what I have produced and they have been helpful with spotting typos and inconsistencies and recommended areas to work on. They turn out to be good sparring partners when it comes to co-creation.
To give you a flavour of what to expect from the book, I asked NotebookLM to use it’s weird new “Create a Podcast” feature to review the book and the results are amazing, and a little disappointing at the same time. While Google is able to extract many of the main themes of the book and present them in an entertaining way NLM misses many of the stories behind the scenes.
This feels exactly the state of Large Language Models today and that should we on everyone’s mind as they experiment and test these new tools. What they achieve is truly mind-boggling but we need to think about what they lack too.
I’ve had some of my closest friends review the manuscript too and they have responded with such a range of emotions, suggestions, connections and thoughts; so much wider and deeper than AI. LLMs cannot be generous, they cannot see the person behind the words, and they cannot feel the why behind what is on the pages of the book.
AI can however continue to surprise and give you a good summary. Have a listen.
